What is the best way to build up my web design portfolio?
I'm a college student, I am on my final three classes to get my web design certificate and I'm one year away from my associates in applied science. I plan to continue on of course, but in the mean time I would love to start building my portfolio, as I have been told that a degree alone won't land you a job in web design.What I would like to do is find small businesses that I could build a web site for. I am not planning on charging for my service or time. What I get out of it is obviously an addition to my portfolio. Now here are my questions, for anyone who's been in this position.1 Is there any website online that I would be able to join, to find " clients" like this?2 What would be a decent number of projects to have in my portfolio before I start the job hunt? I would like to get looking for a job as soon as I get my certificate, while I'm still in school.I have tried to talk to local businesses, but as soon as they hear " web site" , I get a " sorry, we're not interested" . Even when I tell them it's free. Any tips?My strengths are back end coding namely, PHP MySql . I have got into the design aspect of websites the past 6 months or so.

I need some clients for my free website development services. I can do html, css, php, and maybe jQuery tasks. I use OOP php as my main language when building websites and will do my best to fulfill your needs in your website. I will build your website, but you absolutely must keep some type of message on the footer saying it was made by me, which seems reasonable to me. Remember, I need to do this to build my portfolio, that's why I need the " website made by ..." message.Keep in touch with me by clicking on my avatar and adding me to your contacts, and sending me a message about what you would like.I have to insert a visual message on the site, because not every browser has access to the source of the website. This is a FREE service and can't offer professional hosting for free, but I can put it online by using a free host, or I could just send you the files for you to upload on any host you choose.the PSP's browser doesn't allow you to " view source" and neither does the blackberry Pearl's browser.
How do I build a web design portfolio?
Could anyone offer me advice on how to create and build a web design portfolio to attract potential employers? For example, i am competent with the Adobe suite HTML E Commerce etc so was thinking of designing 2 3 sites with just one page showing my design skills, 2 3 more interactive websites e.g. 3 5 pages and an E Commerce site. Would this be enough the right way of going about things to get work?

I'm planning on attending a job fair at my college to look for Web design interships. I want to bring a portfolio along with my resume but I don't want to lug my laptop around. What should I do? Should I make an online portfolio for this occassion and supply them a link or print out screen shots pictures of the work I've done on quality photo paper and arrange a portfolio that way?

Web design portfolio help?
Hi I have recently started building my own portfolio but to put it online I want to use tools such as photoshop to create a main page image but what do you think would be a good idea.I mean are there do's and don'ts when creating these images like don't have dragon drawings as it lures away or don't draw in pink as you will lose the male customer who visits. Stuff like that.I am also asking for general idea's as well I have already created my main menu and title logo but having never done this before as in portfolio creating I don't know what I am or am not supposed to do.Thanks for any guidance on the subject.
