How do I get web design clients?!?
I'm a web designer, and I basically need clients that I can work with online, as I don't have an office work for a company.Please help Thanks
What is the easiest / best way to give my web design clients access to their own content?
Started small local web design firm with a friend. New to content management.. I have been getting a few requests from clients that they want to access their site's content and be able to change some simple things such as text and images by themselves. I am using godaddy hosting i now know they suck, i'm switching to hostgator soon and my files are HTML built with dreamweaver.. Any help is appreciated.
Pricing for web design clients?
Okay, so I've been setting up my own web design business from home. I feel I have strong enough abilities in web design and know a fair amount about operating as a business. The only thing I am truely stuck on at the moment is pricing. The question is, how do I know what to charge clients, and should it all be dependant on what the client wants, or should I offer fixed package prices? Or perhaps both? Advice on how to go about doing this would be fantastic. I don't want to over charge, but I don't want to sell myself short either.
Are web design clients put off if you reveal that you're self taught..?
....And don't have a BSc etc.?I've registered with this rubbish college and I've discovered that this CIW certified internet webmaster course I'm doing is actually not teaching me anything about designing websites. It's completely useless. So I've decided to teach myself from home.Is it enough for potential clients to just have a portfolio?

What is a good way to start off getting web design clients?
I just registerI just started my own web design company and I am looking for ways to get some clients. I understand word of mouth is a great way to get starter and after only two days in business, I was able to land our first client, through my father. That client led to two more within a few days.I would like to keep this pace up to where I have at least one project after another lined up, but with word of mouth, eventually that dries up. What are some recommendations on a good start up way to get clients? I am not looking for just locals, I am willing to design for clients world wide. I am not a fan of the idea of advertising methods such as Google AdWords. Simply because there is so many other web design firms, bigger and more experienced that people would go to. I want to be able to get my clients personally, and not have to depend on such ads where I may or may not get lucky to have someone clic my ad and need my service.
Web design client - I really screwed up in the beginning?
I am a web designer. About 6 months ago, I offered to help out some friends who have an investment company and re vamp their website for them, free of charge. They were good friends and I was just re vamping a little so I just offered to help them out . Since then, the website has grown to over 4500 members When I started there were less than 300 and grew to over 4500 in a matter of 3 months .When they built the site they used a hosting company that had pre made templates to use with modules for forums etc.. Since I am a web developer and their pre made template was HORRIBLE, I offered to help them out and re vamp the template they had with some CSS over rides. Great. Now they are looking to expand even more, and are requesting that I do some more with the site. I have told them they need a new system and to get off the current pre made hosting they have they cant upload files to a file manager etc.. it's VERY limited what can be done . The modules they are provided are not meant to keep up with sites with as large a membership as theirs.So my question is this I have a job, a family and I'm in school. It basically has gone from a few things here and there to a full time web admin job.. only I'm not getting paid anything. What is the best way to approach this with the owners? I cannot keep putting in this many hours for them, it's taking away from me making money at my own business....... 1 Just walk away and tell them I cannot do it anymore 2 Ask for some compensation and if so what do I ask for? normal hourly rate? or just something after all i did offer in the beginning to just do it 3 Continue to help them for free and keep my mouth shutThanks so much for the great advice so far I broke the one rule I was taught by a mentor, " Once you decide to take on web design as a job.. NEVER do anything for free even for friends and or family" They live in different states, so an in person sit down meeting is most likely out of the question. I will schedule a phone call with them though
How much should i charge for this web design client (flat rate)?
I'm looking to design a website for a music producer. This is my 1st professional client so i'm not sure how much to charge. I want to charge a flat rate, i was thinking 200 but don't want to price it too high low. The website will have be very media focused with embedded music player, gallery, ecommerce and a membership function.. I won't handle the coding manually, planning to use Joomla. His main points are strong visuals and clear layout functionality for his visitors.So, what would be a reasonable charge? Would really appreciate your input so i can get a rough idea.. Thanks I definitely want to add in fees for maintenances, updates etc. in the long run so i'd charge him monthly for that. But i just want to figure out what flat price is reasonable for the project as a whole?I'm using Joomla as i have experience with it, it's much more convenient and very simple for the client to use when he wants to update his website with info.

Web design client does not want his site in my portfolio. Do you agree?
I just finished work on an attractive public website for a client. It's customary for me to put my work in my portfolio. He said he does not want me posting any sites I work on my site. He followed that with " I do not want to send mixed signals to my current and future markets. I trust you understand." Is this fair? What designer does not want to put their work into their portfolio? I have to be careful because we're about to start a second project with a handful more coming up soon. I really need to build my portfolio. How should I respond to him?
How to create a User-Interface for my Web design clients?
I currently have a couple clients I am designing websites for, as of right now I am using straight up HTML not a shitty WYSIWYG editor, but the problem arises when the clients need new merchandise and products they look to me to do it, and they pay me, which was nice at first, but now I have 4 clients and growing and setting up the new clients sites is hell enough, so I'm looking to make a admin.webdomain.com page for everyone's site where they would log in I'm guessing this would be done in SQL and PHP, don't know either of those, but I'd have to learn someday soon anyways then after logging in with the right credentials there would be a page for editing their site.basically take this for example if Client A want to change the first merchandise picture on let's say the apparel page, how would i script this? I'm guessing I would need a browse to file input bar how do i do that? . Then I want to do something to this affect.let's say this is the image they want to change < img ID " merch1" src " images filename.jpg" > so in the UI it would look likeImg you would like to replace Insert img ID here replace with ...browse exampple will be filename2.pngthen I'm guessing with javascript you'd do something like getElementById 'merch1' .src 'filename2.png'Please help Yahoo keeps cutting that second to last line short, instead of ... it should be 2.png'
